Like us at the new Badgersett Hazel Maze Facebook Page!

Updated plant catalogs, particularly with changes and additions for tubelings from machine-picked seed on the hazel catalog, and with a few updates on the order details page. Updated several entries on the FAQ, particularly regarding when to plant, when plants will be shipped, and order pick-up policy. Updated the plant guarantees page to improve clarity, and reflect the current exception of Hickory-Pecan tubelings and Bare-Root Dormant tubelings from our exceptional plant survival guarantee.

Multiple changes to this website and the Badgersett Growers Blog, having primarily to do with the fact that we are now sold out of hazel and chestnut plants for the 2010 planting season.

Initial details for the 2010 Woody Ag Short Course have been posted. Also, updated the blog link to point to the new Badgersett Growers Blog.

October 27, 2009

A number of updates related to the 2009 harvest (it's done; chestnuts were late and there was an early freeze), availability fo nuts for the holiday season (we have nuts. Chestnuts may be limited), and plant availability for the 2010 planting season (standard tubeling availability is excellent; bare-root dormant availability is extremely limited). Also some slight updates to the personnel page; mainly that we don't actually have a manager of web services right now.

January 25, 2009

A few small updates to the home page, nut order page, plant order pages for hazels, chestnuts and hickories, as well as the News page. The basic information contained is (1) We still have a limited supply of nuts for eating from the 2008 harvest, (2) We are taking orders for the 2009 planting season; availability is excellent for both chestnuts and hazels, and we might be able to ship some hickory seedlings this year, (3) Our handling of e-mail orders has been slow; please re-submit your order if it has not been addressed. (4) Our handling of e-mail information requests has been even slower, please bear with us as we assess ways of continuing to offer this free service.

Following a very difficult July, we're getting back on our feet here, and making some updates to the site. Today, just a few small updates to the homepage and news page. Expect to see significantly expanded news coverage in the next few days, followed by information about recent progress on our drive for capital!

May 15, 2008

The ordering window is pretty short this year, but we now have a limited supply of bare-root "Survivor" butternuts for sale!. We have also started taking pre-orders for our first-shipping hybrid hickories.

May 6, 2008

The 2007 chestnut crop is gone, though we do still have some seconds available for animal feed or other use; this is now reflected on the nut order page. We do have some bare-root dormant stock still available, as indicated on the hazel and chestnut plant order pages. The 2008 Field Day now has its own page, and has links added on the Home Page, News Page, and Main Field Day Page. A few small updates today, partly the news and home pages, but mostly on the nut order page that the 2007 crop of hazels is sold out, but we still have good availability for our top-quality chestnuts.

December 19, 2007

Still slowed down, but picking up the pace. A pile of updates today, including the main page, all news categories, the 2008 short course, and a 2008 events section. The biggest change is the addition of the information products section, including our newly-offered consulting services.

October 13, 2007

After the floods and various other disasters covered in the blog, we're finally updating the main site again. Today just posted some changes to the navigation bars and an update to the nut order page. Further updates should be forthcoming, and we plan to get some good coverage of the field day and hazel diesel demo up on the news section before long.

August 11, 2007

Pictures were posted late yesterday on the Field Day page and the Three Biodiesel Breakthroughs press release. Updated the Info and Hazel Info pages to make it easier to find the Hazel Handbook, and Why.

Temporarily make the NEW! link in the navbar point directly to the field day page.

Updated calendar of events archive a bit, as well as the news on the homepage.

July 2, 2007

Shipping and handling prices for plants have been updated. Additionally, the lack of availability for hickories and butternuts for this year has been noted there. A bulletin detailing our butternuts is finished, and should be posted soon.

Mar. 18, 2007

The 2nd Woody Agriculture Short Course registration information is now up on the web. The short course will be held on Mar 31–Apr 1 at Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center. Read more...

Dec. 30, 2006

The Plants catalog has been updated, and we are now set up to take plant orders via e-mail; follow the directions on the appropriate catalog page. Coming soon to the plants pages will be hybrid hickories, and butternut seedlings from canker-resistant wild parents. These new additions will be available for the 2007 planting season.

In addition, the news section has been restructured and now includes news archives. The archive is currently only for 2006, but the intention is to eventually index all old web pages in the archive so that they can be searched. For now, the best way to find an old page is to email the webmaster.

Dec. 27, 2006 is pleased to be accepted as a member of the Horticulture webring.

In addition, all web page extensions have been changed from .shtml to .html. If you have pages with the .shtml extension bookmarked, these should automatically redirect to the correct page. Please email the webmaster if this is not the case.

Dec. 26, 2006

The Weblog style is now consistent with the rest of the site. As always, please email the webmaster if you can no longer navigate the blog or if you have comments about how navigation (on the blog or anywhere on the site) could be improved.

Nov. 26, 2006

Lots of news this time around, primarily:

Official PayPal Seal

We are now taking e-mail orders for nuts and secure online payments via PayPal.

As of today you can place online orders for nuts by following the directions on our nut order page. In the next week we plan to post seriously revamped plant order pages, complete with the appropriate e-mail ordering instructions. Also coming up will be revamped ordering for accessories and supplies, including gopher poison and fertilizer. If you have questions or suggestions after having ordered (or attempted to) using this new method, please direct them to

As you might have guessed from the previous paragraph, we're in a period of major web development. Even though not much has changed on the surface so far, we've been making a lot of changes in the site to make further updating easier. As always this has the potential to mess things up, so please contact if you find anything that's broken, or if there's something you think should work differently.

Also new today is this page, which is the first stage in a new organization of the news section. Stay tuned for further updates!

Nov. 6, 2006

Posted a new page on chestnut-fed pork in the chestnut part of our info section. This has some details on the chestnut-finished pigs that Badgersett and Grass Run Farm have been experimenting with, along with some background. More info and an in-depth taste analysis are available at this entry on the Augieland food blog.
